Testimonial from Mapping Specialists

“It was an honor to be part of this project with Proteus, R2 Sonic and Map the Gaps. When I was invited to be part of this project I didn't hesitate to jump on board. I found this whole experience enriching and fulfilling, working with Mike Brissette [R2 Sonic], and colleagues from Map the Gaps was great, It was an opportunity to share knowledge and experiences. We faced a couple of issues, as usual, but I was glad to have in the team experienced people able to look for solutions and make things work so we could reach our goal, and map most of Curazao Marine Protected Area. This project also gave us the opportunity to show the people from Curacao and from all over the world the importance of ocean mapping and how Map The Gaps works towards increasing diversity and equity in ocean mapping.

I definitely can't wait to be part of future projects.” - Luisana Osorio

“My experience in Curaçao showed me the importance of equity and diversity in Ocean Mapping. To have so many nationalities functioning together as a team was just amazing. Getting the experience to work with Mike Brissette [R2 Sonic] and my fellow Alumni helped me to develop more as a hydrographer. The wealth of knowledge that was shared between us, allowed me to improve my skill set in the field of Ocean Mapping. Not having access to cutting edge technology can hamper your growth and development as a hydrographer and I was given this chance to work with the R2Sonic 2026 system and experienced hydrographers.

The team at the helm of Map the Gaps knows the importance of equity and diversity in Ocean Mapping and I just want to say thank you for allowing me to get this experience for my growth and development.” - Diego Billings
